Welcome to my Blog!

My name is Kristen Gura Fickman, and this is my online outlet for documenting, exploring and occasionally venting about all things motherhood, life, love, travel, sweatpant fashion, and of course, food. I am an excellent eater.

I’m originally from Rochester, MN, where I grew up, got married, and absolutely love visiting whenever I can. I'm now a screenwriter in Los Angeles, CA, where I live with my amazing director husband, my wonderful stepson, Austin, our big and clumsy goldendoodle, and our little baby girl - Georgie.

We do an insane amount of traveling for my husband’s work. We spent most of 2018 in New York for a television show, then onto London for a West End musical, and finally back to LA where we moved into a bigger apartment to accommodate our... well... I just wanted a bigger apartment. Our life is chaotic, busy, exciting, and a little disorganized – but we are very happy and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way.

I lost my dad to a sudden onset of brain cancer in 2017, and that has profoundly affected my perspective and the way I experience life and love. So many of us have lost people we cherish. It’s hard and terrible and sometimes you burst into tears at the sight of Christmas M&Ms because you remember dad leaving trails of them all over. Sometimes you hide away all day with facemasks, coffee and a Gilmore Girls marathon thanking the universe for Amy Sherman-Palladino and the birth of (both) Lorelai Gilmores. And that’s okay. I want this to be a space to share happy times, sad times, and to celebrate the people we have loved and lost. In that spirit, I’ll be signing each of my blog posts the way my dad signed every letter to me – in his own handwriting.

My blog is honest, personal, goofy, and definitely cheaper than therapy. I’m very not perfect and sometimes I try too hard, but I’m certainly doing my best, one day at a time – like I know we all are! Enjoy the blog, good luck out there, and don’t be too hard on yourself.
